SP2 preterite vs. imperfect poster - DUE Mon., 4/11

Create a poster with one example sentence, the accompanying rule, and one visual (cutout/drawing) for each of the Preterite (A,B,C) and Imperfect (A,B,C,D) rules shown in the chart below:


REQUIREMENTS:

1) Each example must be unique and different from those in the chart above. For example, DON'T use the following; it is only meant for purposes of illustration: "Anoche llovió."

Anoche llovió. [The Completion of Past Actions or States]
The above is an example of PRETERITE RULE "A": The Completion of Past Actions or States. You will need to create one such illustration with Caption and Rule for each of the three Preterite rules and each of the four Imperfect rules.
2) Use our National Geographic magazines to source images if you wish. Poster must be big enough for all text to be legible for Sr. Anderson from 10 feet.
3) Use large poster board, write large, and write the text/captions using a marker/sharpie.
4) Include 7 different visuals/images/cutouts total.
5) Divide your poster in half, label each section with a large section header: either “PRETERITE” or “IMPERFECT”.

Preterite vs. Imperfect - 2 VIDEOS

1. Play "Preterite vs. Imperfect Battleship". Set the enemy level to EASY. Click on the battlefield until you hit something. Then you will be asked a multiple choice question. You will need to select the correct tense and conjugation based on the given sentence. Play until you WIN and then show me the board with the "congratulations" message after you win (show/bring the chromebook up to me before continuing or leaving the page).
Example Problem:
I drew.
A. dibujo
B. dibujó
C. dibujé ......... CORRECT: Preterite because it is a complete action
D. dibujaba
TIP: If you make a mistake you will see an ORANGE TARGET remaining. Click on it again to attempt the question again.

HELP: If you continue to make mistakes and don't know why, review the rules governing the use of preterite and imperfect as we discussed yesterday. Also you can review the basic endings below if conjugation is the problem:


Here are all three regular preterite verb forms together:

hablar comer vivir
hablé comí viví
hablaste comiste viviste
habló comió vivió
hablamos comimos vivimos
hablasteis comisteis vivisteis
hablaron comieron vivieron

Note: The nosotros forms for -ar and -ir verbs are the same in both preterite and present tenses: hablamos, vivimos.


Here are all three regular imperfect verb forms together:

hablar comer vivir
hablaba comía vivía
hablabas comías vivías
hablaba comía vivía
hablábamos comíamos vivíamos
hablabais comíais vivíais
hablaban comían vivían



2. Go to the list of Preterite and Imperfect Trigger Words on Quizlet. Copy these into your notebook in TWO SEPARATE TABLES: "Imperfect Triggers" and "Preterite Triggers". Write the Spanish and English meanings for each term which belongs in that table.

3. Read the list of additional trigger words here: Preterit vs. Imperfect - differences and signifier phrases. Take note of any phrases or words that are missing from your tables. Add 2 more new triggers or phrases to each table. Underline/Star/Highlight these new phrases.

4. After completing Step 3 do the Practice Quiz. After you finish, write down your Percentage, Number Attempted (__/40), and Streak in your notebook. Repeat the quiz as necessary until you get 30+ out of 40. Record your score each time. Show me your these tables and scores when you are finished to get a stamp and to get credit for your lab. [20 points Participation]

The Preterite Past Tense

1. Read the tutorial at musicalspanish.com: http://www.musicalspanish.com/tutorial/past-verbs.htm
2. Create a table in your notebook emulating the regular endings table below:


3. Complete the Past Tense Verbs Worksheet online. Check your answers with the [?] button.
4. Once you know the correct answers, write the sentences for problems #1-10 out completely in your notebook. Underline the preterite conjugations (the answers). E.g. "9) Uds. volvieron muy cansados."
5. Next, complete the Past Tense Verbs Quiz on the website. Retake the quiz until you get a perfect score. Write a big smiley face in your notebook with the message "I got a perfect score" when you are done.

6. Next, read the tutorial covering Regular and Irregular forms, plus Uses of the Preterite: http://www.spanishdict.com/topics/show/60
7. When you are done reading, try the Practice Quiz at Spanishdict.com. NOTE: It should be very challenging for you at this time. If you get 10/40 correct or more, write yourself another smiley face message: "¡Sí, se puede!".

1) In your notebook, write a Stroke Order Diagram for each new Kanji, starting with the kanji for "eye" and ending with "thread".

2) Write each of the Kanji words in your notebook. Column 1 = Kanji Word, Column 2 = Reading, Column 3 = English Meaning.

9) After completing one quiz, record your results in your notebook:
